Tom Brady has been coined the nickname “Tom Terrific” by some in the media.
If Brady is truly terrific, then he should have no problem taking an average group of receivers at best, and turning them into the yards churning, efficient Patriots offense we are all used to seeing.
With the loss of Wes Welker to free agency, Aaron Hernandez to murder charges, The Patriots are trotting out newbies at the skill position.
Ben Volin of The Boston Globe wrote Tuesday that Danny Amendola has been “the one bright spot in the receiver room so far.”
That is the good news coming out of New England. I think things would have really looked bleak had Amendola struggled to adjust.
NFL.com reported that Tom Brady worked with “17 different skill guys and seven different combinations in practice on Saturday.”
Amendola even drew the Praise of grumpy old Bill Belichick.
“He’s a very good receiver,” coach Bill Belichick told Sirius XM in a rare moment of public praise. “He can play outside, play inside. He can run after the catch, has returned kicks. Has good ball skills. Good concentration. Tough kid. We’re excited to have him and we’ll see how it all fits together. I know the quarterbacks are gaining a lot of confidence in his route-running and catching ability.”
