It’s very common in the world of sports entertainment for athletes to date other celebrities. In fact it is so common that for your more notable athletes it can seem like a right of passage. And even though these relationships usually don’t turn into long-term love affairs, a research report on SeatCrunch.com shows that these flings may be beneficial to an athlete’s overall performance.

In their research Seat Crunch compared 108 athlete/celebrity relationships dating back to the 90’s comparing athletes’ stats prior to, during, and after the relationship. The results surprisingly revealed that during the relationship athletes’ stats generally rose greatly and although they fell after the break-up they were still noticeably better than prior to the relationship.

Athlete Celebrity Relationships

The study also goes on show that 35% of the time athletes date models, followed by actresses 28% of the time, and musicians 15% of the time.  It also revealed what we already knew, that these relationships are often fleeting, with the average NFL or NBA celebrity relationship lasting just a little over a year.  There are very interesting statistics in the entire piece and I encourage you to read it in its entirety to find out what celebrity relationship was most beneficial to the athlete and which starlet is most detrimental to performance.
