Dontari Poe grew up in Memphis, went to the University of Memphis, got drafted by Kansas City, and made barbecue a staple of his life.

Poe who wanted to be in better shape, lost almost 20 pounds, after giving up barbecue.

“It might be the hardest thing I’ve had to do since I’ve been here,” he said. He hasn’t eaten any barbecue since June.

“I feel like I can play more plays, without getting as tired or exhausted,” Poe said. “My mind is staying strong out there. And I can play faster.”

Poe for his part says he feels faster.
