Duke CB, Hud Mellencamp, is facing possible battery charges for an incident that happened in Indiana in July. CBS Sports is reporting that the son of musician, John Mellencamp, is being charged with felony battery. The situation stems from an incident where him and his younger brother, Speck, are accused of beating a man to the point where he had facial fractures and required stitches.
This probably means absolutely nothing to the Duke football team, except the fact that dad, John, won’t be donating more money to the Duke program for awhile. Hud had no prior playing experience before attending Duke, and he joined the team as a walking weighing in at just 165 lbs.
Comments from the Blue Devils coach, David Cutcliffe, further suggest this theory since he said:
“Currently, we are giving him the opportunity to return to Indiana to address his legal issues. We will refrain from any further comment until more information becomes available.”
Usually a starting member of the any Division I football program would go under immediate suspension if something like this was to happen. Hud is denying that he was involved in the incident, but eyewitnesses claim the opposite. This seems to be more of a disaster for the Mellencamp family than the Blue Devils football program.
