The AND 1 Summer Remix Basketball Tournament began yesterday in my city, as Philly, and Temple University’s Liacouras Center will play host.
AND 1 is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, and in honor of being around so long, the Philadelphia based shoe company is putting on a star-studded $100,000 tournament.
Day one featured four games with a with some local flavor, some NBA ties, and a New Edition.
The first game featured Philly’s Finest, going up against Bingo’s All Stars, a group from New York that used to winning big tournaments, and is led by former St. Johns forward Anthony Glover, and former Cincinnati point guard Kenny Satterfield.
Satterfield and his Bingo All Stars ended up being too much, as they pulled away late in the game to gain a 25 point win.
In the second game former New Edition front man Michael Bivens’ team, Biv 10 defeated the team of Born Ready, coached by Shawn Kemp.
The final game of the night saw legendary producer Jermaine Dupri and Harlem rapper Juelz Santana lead their teams in a game that went down to the wire, but saw Jermaine’s Global 14 team defeated the squad of Skull Gang.
Friday, day 2 will feature Pacers guard Lance Stephenson and his Born Ready crew followed by a performance by Bun B, and Stephen Jackson and his Streetball.com crew.
