It’s pretty well known Mike D’Antoni likes to push the ball down the court when the offense has the ball, but the Lakers didn’t exactly have the personnel best suited for that style last season. It forced D’Antoni to amend his style and also lit up the hot seat on which was already sitting. The Lakers will look different, but will this be a positive? Lakers assistant coach, Kurt Rambis, said he wasn’t exactly sure in an interview with the LA Times.
“In order to run, you need a push guard. That’s Steve Nash,” said Rambis. “It remains to be seen whether he’s coming back from his injuries, and continues to [push] at an elite fast-break pace.”
Next season the Lakers will have Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, and Pau Gasol all returning from injuries. These are all key players that have to play well if the Lakers want to make that championship push this season. It will be interesting to see how Nick Young, Wesley Johnson and the returning Jordan Farmar, gel with the main core of players.
