Washington Redskins

The debate about the whether the Redskins name is offensive or not has been going on for a long time. Numerous Native American groups, civil rights organizations, and government officials have spoken out about the use of the name, calling it offensive and a form of ethnic stereotyping. Supporters of the name say that its use is harmless and it is meant to honor those of Native American ancestry.

Peter King’s popular website the Monday Morning Quarterback has decided it will no longer use the controversial nickname.

“I know that our site, we’ve talked about it, and we’re not going to use Redskins in our writing. We’re going to say ‘Washington football team.’ And it’s not something we’re going to publicize or write about. We’re just not going to do it.”

This is not the first time a publication has decided not to use the term. In October 2012 the Kansas City Star stopped using the nickname but the paper has since started using it again. It will be interesting to see if this stance by the MMQB will be permanent.

  1. This name has been used for decades, why in recent years people think it’s offensive. The problem I see is the Libtards want to control this Country and our freedom of speech.
