Report: Bucks & Center Larry Sanders Nearing Contract Extension
According to a report via Marc Stein of ESPN, the Milwaukee Bucks, are looking to lock up their slightly crazy but very talented young center.
Oct. 31 is the deadline for extensions for members of Sanders’ 2010 draft class, but sources told ESPN.com this week that negotiations on a new deal for one of Milwaukee’s new cornerstones have already reached the final stages.
Although contract figures were not immediately known, sources say Sanders is expected to receive an extension with an annual salary in excess of $10 million. He averaged 9.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in just 27.3 minutes per game last season.
It’s not immediately clear to me where the Bucks are heading after the departures of Brandon Jennings, Monta Ellis, Mike Dunleavy, and J.J Redick. They acquired Brandon Knight, O.J Mayo, and Gary Neal in the offseason, but that may not be enough to get them back into the playoffs.
Locking up Sanders, who has a little Rasheed Wallace in him as far as his temper is concerned, is a smart move though.
