Last night was supposed to be 49ers quarterback Seneca Wallace’s opportunity to fight for a spot on the 53-man roster. Instead the ten-year veteran he informed head coach Jim Harbaugh yesterday that he was going to retire.
There were rumors that Seneca Wallace was set to be released and was contemplating retirement, but that was only speculation. Harbaugh admitted that being informed of the decision on game day threw him for a loop, but he didn’t not try to talk Wallace out of it.
With three quarterbacks currently on their roster Wallace’s abrupt retirement makes the decision-making process much easier for the 49er staff.
It kinda makes me think whether Seneca, instead of fighting for a spot or at least making a good showing for other teams to scout, took the cowardly way out. I know being cut isn’t a good feeling, but being a quitter may be a little worse.
