Say what you want about Adrien Broner, but when he enters the ring, he’s all business.
There have rumors of Broner being a little heavy and out of shape since he defeated Paulie Malignaggi in June. Those reports suggest that Broner’s weight issues have forced his upcoming bout with Marcos Maidana to be pushed back from it’s intial December date.
Broner must have heard the whispers because he stopped by Floyd Mayweather’s gym while the champ was getting in some last minute training for his September 14 showdown with Canelo Alvarez.
Broner like so many other visitors to the gym wanted to make an impression on the dog pound. The dog pound of course includes Mayweather, his fighters and anybody in the gym.
When Floyd says it’s time to go down, it’s time to go down.
This time Broner was thrust into the ring, and proceeded to dish out some punishment to Floyd’s sparring partners.
Protege or not, I find it hard to believe that the teacher and the protege won’t match up at some point between fight 3-6 of Floyd’s epic deal with Showtime/CBS.
Floyd Sr. even spoke about the possibility recently.
“There can always be something there that makes you fight. You say you ain’t gonna do this, you ain’t gonna do that. Let something go wrong. Let Broner say something wrong that Floyd don’t like…when he gets somebody real in front of him, he’s going to forget all about the roll. The roll won’t even be there, believe me. The roll won’t be there, none of that other stuff — picking off, catching, rolling — you won’t see none of that.”
Does Broner love the mentor enough to not try and cash out at some point?
Stay tuned.
