UFC President, Dana White, participated in a public Google+ Hangout and answered questions from fans about the UFC and MMA in general. One question he received was whether he could see one of his fighters get the $41.5 million guaranteed to Floyd Mayweather for his fight vs. Saul Alvarez.
“We paid a guy $5 million for a fight before, [but] we didn’t start making money until 2007. That was six years ago. So boxing’s been around for a 100 years, they’ve been doing big events since way back when. Pretty amazing what we have done in short amount of time. I don’t think a lot of people look at that way and break it down for what it really is.”
It’s impressive what Dana White has done with the UFC and for MMA in general during the last decade. It still has a ways to go to generate the box office that Mayweather gets, but as long as it continues to grow in popularity, it may very well get there.
