After his TKO victory over Eddie Wineland at UFC 165, UFC Interim Bantamweight Champion, Renan Barao, brought his UFC record t0 6-0 and his overall MMA record to 31-1, with an impressive 31 consecutive wins after losing his very first fight. UFC president Dana White thinks bigger things are on the horizon for his Interim Bantamweight Champion.
“The closest thing to [Mayweather] is this kid right here. He’s gone undefeated for eight years, Floyd has gone undefeated for 17 years. Do you know how hard it is to go eight years undefeated? Seriously, think about that. He doesn’t get enough credit for the record he has and what this guy is capable of doing, and it’s not just like he’s undefeated and he goes to decision and outpoints you. This dude [expletive] destroys you.”
It seems like a stretch to compare Bareo to Mayweather, seeing that Money is 45-0 and hasn’t lost ever as a pro, a 17-year span. While, 31-1 with 31 consecutive victories is impressive, the one loss sticks out in the comparison. Dana White is showing why he is a master promoter and is looking to create a bigger buzz for one of his rising stars.
Hopefully UFC Bantamweight Champion, Dominick Cruz, is healthy enough and there can be a fight to unify the titles sometime in early 2014.
