NBA: Brooklyn Nets-Press Conference

NBA season is right around the corner and that means we get to see the revamped Nets, including Boston transplants Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. We also get to see how new coach Jason Kidd will be able to manage this talented but seasoned team.

According to reports, Kidd has gotten some players to buy into the theory that he will be able to better relate to them because he is just one year removed from their position. But getting the older vets like KG to conform may not be as easy. As reported by USA Today Sports, Kidd recently spoke with Garnett about not letting him play in games on consecutive nights. The conversation probably didn‘t go quite like he would’ve expected.

“It didn’t go too well,” Garnett said. “I understand what he’s saying. He just wants to make sure I’m durable. … I just don’t want to be told anything. I think I’ve earned the right to have an opinion on something that I’m doing. From a chemistry standpoint, I think it’s important for me to be out there with everybody.”

I agree with Garnett. When blending a team like this, full of superstar athletes and personalities, chemistry is arguably the most important thing and time on the court will help them develop this.

It will be interesting to see how Kidd manages this team. I personally feel a veteran coach who commands respect for his accomplishments on the bench would be better for a team full of superstar veterans, where managing personalities is just as important as x’s and o’s. This should be interesting.
