In a new book from Wall Street Journal reporters Albergotti and Vanessa O’Connell titled Wheelmen, Sheryl Crow allegedly witnessed Lance Armstrong receive an illegal blood transfusion.
In an investigative report released by the New York Daily News Thursday morning, It claims that in 2004, Armstrong’s then-girlfriend Crow flew with him to Belgium and witnessed him partake in doping.
“Rather than try to hide the transfusion from her, Armstrong was completely open about it,” the authors write. “He trusted that Crow would have no desire to tell the press or anyone else about the team’s doping program. He explained that it was simply part of the sport – that all cyclists were doing the same thing.”
The couple broke up in 2006, but Crow was contacted by investigators as a grand jury considered a federal indictment against Armstrong in 2011.
The book claims that lead Food and Drug Administration criminal investigator Jeff Novitzky gave her a proffer agreement, a document that protects witnesses from criminal prosecution if they cooperate honestly.
