Chris Paul might be the best point guard in the NBA, but to Doc Rivers he’s simply a talented guy without a ring.

Fresh off of coaching Rajon Rondo, Rivers is not foreign to dealing with different personalities and that experience dealing with Rondo, along with a winning pedigree allowed Rivers to lay the law down to Paul during their first meeting.

According to Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports, Rivers in the process of trying to motivate CP3, let his new star point guard know that he’s accomplished nothing in the NBA besides a few individual honors.

Chris Paul’s NBA résumé is highlighted with several elite individual accomplishments. But that didn’t stop new Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers from letting his star point guard know in their first face-to-face meeting that he’s lacking one major prize. An NBA championship.”As professional athletes, you always want someone to push you and motivate you,” Paul said. “The first meeting I had with Doc, he pretty much told me I wasn’t anything. He told me I hadn’t done anything in this league, and he was right. You don’t always want somebody that’s going to tell you what you want to hear.”

Rivers has come a long way from the guy that was almost fired in Boston.  It’s amazing what talented players can do for a coaches legacy.
