Orlando Cruz made it known a year ago this month that he was an openly gay man, as well as a championship boxer.
Cruz proclaimed that he’s proud to be gay.
“I’ve been fighting for more than 24 years and as I continue my ascendant career, I want to be true to myself,” Cruz said in the statement. “I want to try to be the best role model I can be for kids who might look into boxing as a sport and a professional career. I have and will always be a proud Puerto Rican. I have always been and always will be a proud gay man.”
Since then the 32 year old Featherweight has proposed to his boyfriend, and improved as a boxer. Saturday night Cruz squares off against Orlando Salido for the WBO featherweight title.
Cruz will definitely make a splash during his walk to the ring, and throughout the duration of the fight. In the photo provided by Next Impulse Sports, Cruz previewed his ring attire for Saturday night.
Cruz plans to wear rainbow trunks, and pink gloves during the bout. The pink gloves will be to support Breast Cancer Awareness month.
