The one thing that always stuck out with me about the Gatti vs. Ward triology was that there was no politics involved, these guys simply liked to fight.
One of the great things about boxing is the varying styles. I can appreciate watching a Floyd Mayweather fight or a strategic fight like we just saw with Bradley and Marquez, but there are times you just want violence.
Gatti vs. Ward were three violent fights, that made you wince, but you could not look away. Where you wondered outloud if someone would die in the ring. The fact they became such close friends afterwards, should tell you how much those fights meant to both of them.
HBO is bringing back Legendary Nights and I couldn’t think of a better way than with Gatti vs. Ward. The exclusive HBO presentation debuts SATURDAY, OCT. 19 (midnight-1:15 a.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO, immediately following “World Championship Boxing: Mike Alvarado vs. Ruslan Provodnikov,” which begins at 9:45 p.m.
