It sounds like Vikings head coach will not rush newly acquired QB Josh Freeman into the mix this weekend versus the Panthers. Freeman won’t be in the mix to start Sunday, but the former Bucs QB will have a chance to compete for the lead role according to Ben Goessling:
Frazier: See how Christian does Wednesday. He and Matt will be starter options. Not trying to get Freeman ready for Carolina.

Frazier says #Vikings told Freeman he would have a chance to compete for starting job. Said Ponder is still the starter if he's healthy.

No one actually believes that Christian Ponder will still be the Vikings starting QB two weeks from now. My guess is that Cassel starts this week and then Freeman the week after. After that, Ponder needs to be on alert to get Flynn’ed.
