Daniel Orton will always be that nasty stain on John Calipari’s resume.
Orton was a member of that fabulous 2009 Kentucky freshman class that included John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, and Eric Bledsoe.
Orton was one of the most highly touted big men of that class, but only averaged 3.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks in 13.2 minutes per game for the Wildcats.
Even with such stats, Orton followed his freshman teammates and entered the NBA Draft against Calipari’s wishes. He was selected #29 by the Orlando Magic.
This morning Orton was waived by the Oklahoma City Thunder after a lackluster preseason according to RealGM.
Orton appeared in 13 games with the Thunder during the 2012-13 season, averaging 2.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in 8.0 minutes per contest.
