blackface maloneSomeone in the Utah Jazz’s social media department clearly wasn’t thinking when they retweeted a picture of a fan dressed up as Karl Malone in blackface.

Of course an apology tweet wasn’t too far behind…

The staff at the Jazz should have never promoted a practice that many find so offensive.  Some may say that this was an innocent attempt to pay homage to the Jazz’s dynamic duo and people are too sensitive.   Just in case you’re not aware why blackface is so derogatory to African American’s, let me share with you how this form of theatrical make-up was used…

The practice gained popularity during the 19th century and contributed to the proliferation of stereotypes such as the “happy-go-lucky darky on the plantation” or the “dandified coon“.

Too sensitive?  I think not.
