Jay Z may not negotiate contracts, but he definitely wants to know what’s going on.
According to the New York Daily News via Robinson Cano’s agent, CAA’s Brodie Van Wagenen, Jay Z will be involved in contract negotiations for the Yankees star free agent.
“That has been true for the last six months and it’s certainly true now,” Van Wagenen said Sunday in an appearance on MLB Network Radio on Sirius/XM. “Jay is a very, very successful businessman who has a keen understanding of value, a keen understanding of brands and a keen understanding of what this player, Robinson Cano, wants to accomplish for his career.
“He’s been at the table both in strategy sessions in preparation and he absolutely has and will continue to be involved with the actual negotiations with the potential suitors.”
CAA and Roc Nation signed a joint agreement to represent Cano in April. Cano fired Scott Boras, the game’s premier negotiator, to make way for this unique partnership.
