Matt Leinart isn’t really saying much here, and I’d be very interested in debating his statement.

Young’s performance for Texas in the 2005 National Championship is considered legendary, and made that game one folks considered the best game ever played.

Former USC Trojan quarterback Matt Leinart had high praise for Young, calling him the best college quarterback ever in his opinion.

“My USC faithful is going to be mad at me, but I gotta say Vince Young,” Leinart said on a Fox Sports talk show. “And the only reason why, you look at his stats and his stats are staggering. He’s over 6,000 passing yards, over 3,000 rushing yards so he could do both things.

“For me, I personally witnessed him take away my quest for a third national championship. We had a great defense and nothing against our team, but he single-handedly beat us in the national championship game.”

Young of course was 30-of-40 for 267 yards and ran for 200 yards with three touchdowns as the underdog Longhorns topped the Trojans.
