Matt Sinclair who is an Illinois’ assistant director of player personnel and relations and former football player has been charged with two felony counts of unlawful use of a weapon after pointing an unloaded handgun at a vehicle carrying other staff members. Police also found brass knuckles in the car when he was stopped. They were driving down I-74 back to Champaign when this happened after this Saturday’s win at Purdue.
According to WICD News 15:
Champaign County State’s Attorney Julia Rietz says someone called police to report a driver pointing a gun out of a truck on Interstate 74 in eastern Illinois. Police say Sinclair said he pointed the gun as a joke.
I am going to go out on a limb here and say no one in the car getting a gun pointed at them while driving down the road took that as a joke. This is not exactly the way the Fighting Illini wanted to be in the news after they got their first conference win in 20 games in the Big Ten.
