The MLB equivalent of The Odd Couple might be playing out next season, if the Oakland A’s don’t progress in their search for a new stadium.
The Oakland A’s have long desired a new stadium, and this year things went from want to a need after multiple reports of sewage leakage seeping into the dugout emerged.
But if MLB has things their way the temporary solution to the A’s problems will require doing the unthinkable–moving in with their arch rival San Francisco Giants.
If the A’s can’t reach a short term agreement to stay at the Coliseum the boys from Oakland will have to call AT&T Park home for at least 2 seasons, or until a relocation plan is reached.
Overall things are messy all around for the A’s. Moving in with the Giants would almost certainly guarantee that the team will be leaving the Bay Area for good, since the Giants refuse share land in San Jose to the A’s. Realistically though, this appears much more of a bargaining chip by MLB to get the A’s a shorter lease.
If there’s one silver lining in this though, it’s that eventually–although who can say quite when, the A’s will one day soon have a new stadium far from the decaying interior of the Coliseum.
