According to a report via Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle, Rockets back-up center Omer Asik has asked the team to move him via trade.
With his starting job gone and his playing time slashed, Rockets center Omer Asik has asked to be traded, two individuals with knowledge of the request said Thursday.
Asik, who started every game after signing with the Rockets last season, came off the bench Wednesday in Philadelphia, but struggled. He played only four minutes and not at all in the second half. Asik has made his trade request within the past 48 hours, a person familiar with the conversations said.
The Rockets have no trade involving Asik in the works, with one individual saying a deal is more likely in months than in days.
Gee, didn’t see this one coming… Asik has only made his displeasure with the Rockets’ acquisition of Dwight Howard abundantly clear from day one.
In today’s NBA its very difficult to have two starting centers on your team because the league has been transitioning to smaller lineups in recent years. The Rockets were fooling themselves if they thought they were going to be able to play two offensively-challenged centers together and be competitive.
I`m sure there will be a number of teams lining up for the services of Mr. Asik.
