If the Green Bay Packers are to beat the Bears and make a run in the playoffs, they are going to have to do it with out Pro Bowl linebacker Clay Matthews who reportedly suffered a repeat break to his thumb.
Matthews left Sunday’s loss to the Steelers after injuring his right thumb on a sack of Ben Roethlisberger. After the game, coach Mike McCarthy indicated the injury was similar to the fracture that kept Matthews out for four games after surgery earlier this season.
Mike McCarthy couldn’t give an update on his status.
“I couldn’t give you a timeline,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said after the team’s 38-31 loss, “but I think based off the history of what happened the first time, I’m told it’s similar to [a] repeat injury.”
