Floyd says everyone is a strong young champion, but if Amir Khan is his opponent in May he is going to need to build him up big time to get people to purchase the fight.
He doesn’t seem that concerned about it, here is what he had to say to Boxing Scene.
“I never know who I’m going to fight,” Mayweather explained. “I leave that up to my team. My team comes up with the guy and I go with the game plan.
“Whoever it’s going to be, I truly believe we’re going to do good numbers,” Mayweather added. “Because once it gets to this level it’s a business.”
“Amir Khan, I think he’s a young, strong champion,” Floyd stated. “I call all these guys champions. I call them champions because even when they get knocked down they get back up and give it their best.”
“I really don’t know too much about Amir Khan,” Mayweather stated. “But I do know, every time out, the guy comes and fights. If he is the guy, then he’s the guy. There’s nothing I can do but go out there and execute the game plan and dedicate myself to my craft, which is boxing.”
Not exactly a ringing endorsement and we know Mayweather has a big hand in who he fights. He has final approval. Expect an announcement within the next two weeks.
