The Lakers are banged up, there’s no way around it.
Accoring to ESPN Los Angeles, the Lakers have reached out to the Knicks directly to inquire about Iman Shumpert. The Lakers are currently very injured at the point guard position, and while Shumpert is a 2 guard by trade, the Lakers wouldn’t mind rebuilding their backcourt with him.
The Lakers are also exploring the possibilities of making a push for Tyson Chandler in the future.
The Lakers did not inquire about Chandler when they called about Shumpert, but they are weighing whether to propose a Pau Gasol-for-Chandler trade, according to sources.
The Knicks are not looking to move Chandler — several teams have contacted them about him, sources said — but if a club agreed to take back struggling guard J.R. Smith, the Knicks would consider such a deal.
While no trades are expected to be made in the immediate future, the Lakers are in the early stages of reaching out to teams to make what could be some very big moves.
