Report: Jon Gruden Would Consider Taking Texas Job

NFL: NFL Draft

Jon Gruden loves himself some admiration and attention, so why not get it from the adoring fans in Austin, Texas.

According to what they describe as “high-level source,” is reporting that “Gruden is open to hearing from the Texas athletic department about its football head coaching vacancy.”

The two sides reportedly have had no formal contact at this time.

“It’s no secret that every major position that comes open stirs Gruden rumors. The reason why the talks never go anywhere is because there are definitely two, maybe three, situations he’s always said he would have to listen to,” the source told site. “When Texas calls, you gotta listen.

“At some point, well, the bottom line is – there are only a few places where everything just fits.”

USC AD Pat Haden says he spoke with Gruden about the USC, but is adamant that Gruden wants to remain in the NFL.

“He wants to coach in the pros,” Haden told “The Dan Patrick Show.” “If he coaches, he wants to coach in the pros.”

  • I seriously doubt Gruden would leave his plush job at Mondy Night Football to work up to 15 hours a week, six days a week in the horrible humidity to coach at Texas. Remeber, USC and Notre Dame tried to hire him, and failed!
