In the next twist in the ongoing Redskins saga, Mike Silver of the NFL Network is reporting that Mike Shanahan benched Robert Griffin III because of his poor performance and Shanahan did not want to lose credibility with the locker room.
Despite what Shanahan has said publicly, Silver’s sources affirm the coach switched quarterbacks for “performance” reasons. He didn’t believe he could maintain credibility in the locker room if he continued to start a struggling Griffin.
It was ridiculous to believe Shanahan is concerned about RGIII’s health all of a sudden that he needed to shut him down. It’s probably just as bad to believe that his poor performance that got him benched as well. If this is about poor performance, there are plenty of other players that could be sat down.
It sounds like Shanahan knows he doesn’t want to be the Redskins coach next year is simply trying to preserve his $7 million he is owed next year.
