While recovering from the most horrific injury I have ever witnessed, Anderson Silva has his next opponent in mind. He doesn’t have his sights on another fight with Chris Weidman who broke his leg, but a boxing legend. Roy Jones Jr.
“When I get better, that’s my biggest goal, especially because I won’t be able to fight MMA too soon,” Silva said when asked if he still wants to fight Jones. “Fighting in boxing is in my plans, yes, as soon as I’m able to fight again. And Roy is a big idol.”
Spider’s family has been vocal to him that they want him to retire but he says that is not an option for him right now:
“I respect and understand their concern, but that’s something that has to come from my heart,” he said. “That’s not in my plans. I’m focused in my recovery, but I want to get back as soon as possible. That’s who I am, it’s part of my history.
I understand the concern his family has. However, when you have made your name and career off fighting, it seems to be very difficult to just walk away. I admit that I still would like to see a Silva vs Jones match even if they both are past their primes.
