Boxing politics at work here.
Angulo lost to Erislandy Lara, who in turned beat Austin Trout, but Alvarez decided to fight Angulo who is much easier to hit (even if he has dangerous power) than dealing with a boxing scientist like Lara.
Here is Canelo had to say courtesy of Boxing Scene.
Canelo branded Angulo as – “a strong, very dangerous fighter, who always gives good fights, and that’s what people want to see. I thank the fans for all the support they have always given me. They know that in every fight I always come to win, and they know there is going to be a good fight when the opponent wants to fight. We are here to please them.”
“I learned a lot [from the Mayweather loss] and obviously it was an experience for me. That fight, I did not take it as a defeat but as a learning experience, teaching me to keep winning my fights. Actually I feel good and I can fight anyone, and I’m confident that nobody will beat me,” Canelo said.
“We are going to review our mistakes. I think [Mayweather] has a very difficult style, but are going to look at the mistakes were made in the fight and obviously learn from that to win my fights in the future.”
