Earlier in the week new Texas Head Coach Charlie Strong was called a “kick in the face” hire by Texas Billionaire Red McCombs. McCombs also went so far to say that Strong would make a great position coach. Of course while Strong was making the rounds through the media world, he was asked about this:
“There are going to be statements made,” Strong told the Dan Patrick Show. “You can’t worry about that. You just move on. You have a job to do. You can’t worry about what people say or think. I’m going to get judged by my work here.”
“Once you win some football games, you’re going to change a lot of people’s attitudes,” he said. “You have to win. Everybody wants to win nowadays. There are those expectations anywhere you go.”
He had another interesting response that shows that he is confident he can win at Texas:
“I’ll tell you this right now,” Strong told the Jim Rome Show. “I’ve been a part of two national championships. I’ve been a part of a lot of conference titles and turned the program around there at Louisville, so one thing I do know, I can coach.”
There really shouldn’t be a doubt about Strong’s credentials as a coach. He has proven that is a great coach and recruiter. This really is about a rich guy not getting his way who is now stomping his feet and throwing a tantrum because he didn’t get his way or enough input.
