Hakeem Nicks is set to become an unrestricted free agent in a few weeks.
The Giants and Nick met recently to discuss his contract, but no resolution was made on his status. Nicks for his part is trying to remain calm despite a subpar season that took some momentum away from his impending free agency.
Nicks told the New York Post that despite uncertainty surrounding his contract, we all know that New York is where he wants to be.
“I understand the business side of things if it doesn’t happen, but we all know this is where I want to be,” he said. “This is where I got drafted, I enjoy playing in New York, and I like it.”
Nick reiterated that he truly doesn’t know how negotiations will turn out.
“I really don’t know what to expect right now,” Nicks said while appearing at a school charity event on the Lower East Side. “[The Giants said] there’s some stuff going on as far as the coaching changes right now.
“So right now, we’re just taking time to step away from it. When it’s time to handle all that, it’ll happen.”
