The Miami Dolphins 2013 football season will forever be marred by the Jonathan Martin/Richie Incognito bullying scandal.
After lengthy silence and a series of unanswered questions, in an interview with Tony Dungy that aired on “NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams,” Martin is now talking about his experience in Miami and what led to his abrupt departure.
“I’m a grown man,” Martin said. “I’ve been in locker rooms. There’s vulgar languages in locker rooms. One instance doesn’t bother me. It’s the persistence of it.
“I wish I would have had more tools to solve my situation. I felt trapped, like I didn’t have a way to make it right. It came down to a point where I thought it was best just to remove myself from the situation.”
I’ve always wondered how a grown man could let another grown man bully him without speaking up for himself. I’m not sure what other “tools” are needed to do that other than a backbone.
Dungy’s full interview with Martin will air on Wednesday’s episode of Pro Football Talk on NBCSN.
