When last we saw A-Rod he was storming out of arbitration hearings threatening to drag MLB to federal court.
Today, we have a very different A-Rod, as reported by ESPN, a source close to the disgraced slugger says a now calmer A-Rod has discussed taking a reduced suspension stemming from the biogenesis scandal he was embroiled in over the summer.
The proposed suspension of 211 games may go down to under 100, which for A-Rod would prove more costly to fight in court than just sitting out altogether.
If the suspension remains over 100 games, the consensus is that A-Rod will proceed in filing an injunction. The source close to A-Rod stated:
“It’s not just a matter of money,…It’s also about the mental anguish of going through this and not knowing if or when you’re going to play again. Alex might decide to take his medicine and move on.”
Remember, this is the same A-Rod who boldly proclaimed that he shouldn’t even serve “one inning”, so this is a huge about face.
Nevertheless, A-Rod’s spokesman Ron Berkowitz has vehemently denied having ever discussing a reduction in suspension, so the fate of A-Rod could still be very much up in the air.
Arbitrator Frederic Horowitz is expected to make his decision any day now.
