The Detroit Pistons have close to a month to decide if they want to give Greg Monroe an extension, or possibly allow him to walk.
Monroe is set to be a restricted free agent this summer. Even though the Pistons have no intention of giving him a max deal, they are leery of another franchise swooping in and giving him a deal they can’t match.
The Pistons are aware of the trade deadline, and have some interest in possibly moving Monroe. With Josh Smith and Andre Drummond in the fold, the Pistons have no real use for Monroe.
Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insider is reporting that the Washington Wizards are one team that’s interested in prying Monroe away from Detroit.
One team that is interested in Monroe is the Washington Wizards, according to multiple league sources. It’s becoming clear that Washington is planning to pursue in Monroe, either through trade or free agency.
The Pistons are certainly a team to keep an eye on over the next month. Rival executives have said that there is “turmoil” within the organization and that they haven’t decided what to do as the deadline approaches.
