There’s something beautiful about getting older. There’s a raw candidness that comes with it where you’re allowed to say exactly what’s on your mind and not get hounded because folk will say…well he’s old.
Former Oklahoma and Dallas Cowboys coach Barry Switzer had one of those raw candid moments today when asked about Johnny Manziel.
“I love his ability; Johnny can play,” Switzer said. “I’ve always said I’d never recruit a white quarterback. The only way I’d ever recruit a white quarterback to play for me was if his mom and daddy would have to both be black, and that’s the only way I would do it.”
I have to admit, I laughed after reading this.
Switzer, who called Manziel an arrogant prick yesterday but said if he’s available at #2 the Rams have to take him, went on to say that he would base his decision about whether to draft him on his interview and his gut.
Maybe Barry, in his own way, was trying to compliment Manziel by comparing him to black quarterbacks he admittedly loves so much. You can listen to the audio below and decide for yourself.
I don’t necessarily agree with his view or if asked the question again know if Switzer would say the same thing, but either way I’ll chop the quote up to him having one of those entertaining candid senior moments.
