A potentially inspiring story has come to a somewhat cruel end.
According to ESPN, Los Angeles Angels pitcher Mark Mulder has ruptured his Achilles tendon while doing agility drills and therefore will miss the upcoming MLB season.
Mulder, 36, was attempting a comeback after a six-year absence. He signed a minor league contract with the Angels in January that included an invitation to the team’s big league spring training camp.
Mulder, spoke of the hurt he felt when he had to break the news to his family via Twitter.
I can handle this. But seeing my son in tears when he saw me in a boot and crutches and I told him I wasn't going to pitch. That was tough.

Mulder has a 103-60 record with a 4.18 ERA in nine seasons with the Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals.
