It was only a matter of time before something like this happened. After Utah Valley defeated New Mexico State 66-61 Thursday night on their home court, a brawl ensued between the Aggies and Utah Valley fans after they rushed the court.
Although it is unclear who initiated the fight, you can clearly see punches being thrown from both parties.
Either way this is absolutely unacceptable. There would have never been a fight had the fans stayed in their seats where they belong. The court is for players, coaches and officials only. After an emotional loss, the last thing you want is somebody bum rushing you while you’re still in the middle of the floor.
Suspensions will be handed down for a few players from New Mexico State which is to be expected, but I really hope the NCAA takes a deeper look into court-storming and bans it. Not only is it unsportsmanlike, it is down right dangerous and the NCAA has a duty to protect its student athletes from this type of madness.
