The NSAC banned the usage of TRT , Testosterone Replacement Treatment, yesterday and as predicted UFC 173 main event challenger Vitor Belfort has removed himself from the event.

Belfort is a well-known TRT user and has said that his body couldn’t perform without his treatments. Also he’s been using TRT for 3 years now and it’s not known if it could’ve been removed from his system in time for the mandatory drug test.

Former UFC champion Lyoto Machida will step ┬áinto the octagon as his replacement to face middleweight champion Chris Weidman. Weidman has defeated all-time great Anderson Silva twice for the title, once to obtain the belt and once to defend the belt. Machida and Silva are training partners in Brazil and long-time friends. Machida is one of the best Jiu-Jitsu fighters in the world, which will bode well against Weidman’s take-down heavy style.

In 24 hours the banning of TRT has shaken up the MMA world and more announcements are surely to follow.
