Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes is set to be a free agent next week, and Friday on NFL Network’s “NFL AM” he indicated that “it’s time for a fresh start” for both parties.
“I would never say never — everybody (says) you never want to burn a bridge,” he said of returning to New England. “But I just feel like we’d both sides would benefit from a fresh start.”
Spikes reiterated that it was his knee injury that ended his 2013 season — not missing a meeting. He made it clear that he’s a 100% and a everydown linebacker for teams that were wondering.
“I feel like I’m a three-down player,” Spikes said. “I know a lot of people know me as a run-stopper, but I’ve got great coverage skills, I can cover better than you think. Given the opportunity on third down, I delivered every time. It’s on tape….I led the team in tackles this year, that just goes to show you when I’m on the field, I’m a very efficient and effective and productive player.”
