I’m pleased to say that out of 20,000 applicants to the MLB Fan Cave in 2014, I was one of the 18 Finalists in the running for a coveted spot in MLB’s Fan Cave in NYC.
For those who aren’t familiar with the Fan Cave, it’s a Baseball fan’s paradise–from the 18 Finalists 8 are chosen to come to the Cave as ‘Cave Dwellers’ and watch all 162 games, from all 30 teams. The Cave is a located in Downtown Manhattan, and is a perfect mix of Baseball and Pop Culture, with celebrities stopping by and concerts taking place there.
2014 is going to be all the more innovative with MTV2 having gotten involved, the show Off the Bat From The MLB Fan Cave will air on April 1 at 11PM EST and will feature hosts Melanie Iglesias and Chris DiStefano from MTV’s Guy Code.
My experience with the Fan Cave and being a finalist was a true experience of a lifetime. Growing up a diehard Yankees fan, baseball has always been an intimate part of my life. Going on to be the lead Baseball writer for one of the top independently owned sports websites seemed too good to be true, especially since I’ve seen where it has taken me.
A week in Phoenix spent with young fans just like me, and having the opportunity to meet higher-ups from MLB was an experience I will never forget. Getting to showcase the sport I love and be a representative is one of my biggest goals as a Baseball writer. As a young black girl especially, I know all too well there aren’t many other Baseball fans who ‘look’ like me. Baseball is a game without color or gender, it’s a fair game that welcomes all and no where did I understand that better than my time as a Fan Cave finalist.
Although I was not chosen as part of the Final 8 my passion for this game burns all the same. Being in some very small part an ambassador of the game was a true privilege. To see my Cave Dweller brethren who comprise the 2014 Cave click here:
