Garcia-Herrera attraced an average viewership 972,000 viewers as the headliner of a card that included heavyweight Deontay Wilder’s 96-second knockout of Malik Scott.
Garcia’s showtime viewership improved by 26% compared to his April 2013 bout with Zab Judah, Garcia’s last appearance on Showtime.
It helped that viewers were also tuning in to see the Canelo-Angulo replay from the prior weekend’s Showtime pay-per-view, but it doesn’t diminish the fact that Garcia is becoming a household name.
Golden Boy believes Garcia is a star.
“He’s a star,” Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer stated in an e-mail to RingTV.com. “He is not a good one he is the best one.”
Garcia will be a hot name for a potential Mayweather showdown later next year, or he could be lining up for a potential showdown with Canelo Alvarez at some point in the future as Garcia eyes a jump in weight.Powered by Sidelines
