Even though Michael Sam, former Missouri defensive end, is positioned to become the first openly gay player in NFL History, he is still keeping true to his word, letting NFL teams know that he is only thinking about football. His actions are in sync with his promise too. Howard Bragman, Sam’s advisor, told USA Today that Sam declined an invitation to the White House because he does not want people to think he is not focused.
“We respectfully declined,” Bragman said. “As much fun as I would have had and he would have had going, it sends the wrong message. If he gets on a team and plays well, he’ll probably be invited next year. I don’t want people to think that he’s interested in anything other than getting ready for the draft.”
