Report: Melo Wants Knicks to Rebuild This Offseason to Keep Him
Good luck with that.
Carmelo Anthony has been quote gold lately about this Knicks season and of course he has the opportunity to hit free agency this summer. With the losses mounting and the off court court issues swirling around this team, Melo seems to have gotten frustrated. Now according to the NY Daily News, Melo wants the team to rebuild this offseason and doesn’t want to wait to rebuild:
The counterargument is that Anthony needs a better supporting cast. That is true. But the Knicks’ salary-cap situation is such that if they re-sign Anthony they’ll have to wait until 2015 to add that second star. For one, I’m hearing that Anthony’s camp is interested only in the summer of 2014. They don’t want to hear about 2015. And they’re right. Anthony will be 31 with a lot of NBA miles on his legs before reinforcements arrive.
This is actually exactly why I think Melo will leave at the end of the year. The situation just isn’t right for winning big with the Knicks. Also, this is why the Knicks should have traded him at the deadline to get some value back for him.
