Ron Jaworksi deems himself an expert on quarterback play.
No different from any other high profile NFL analyst who between now and draft night will have given over 100 different opinions on who’s best prepared to succeed in the NFL.
Jaworski has Central Florida’s Blake Bortles penciled in as his top quarterback prospect available in the draft. His No. 2 prospect might surprise some folks.
It’s LSU’s Zach Mettenberger, whom Jaworski compared to Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco.
“When you watch him on tape, this guy has an NFL skill set,” Jaworski said of Mettenberger in revealing his list on Friday. “He’s being coached right now by Scott Brunner, by the way — Scott Brunner was the coach who worked with Joe Flacco when he came out of Delaware. Very similar traits in Zach Mettenberger as Joe Flacco.”
Mettenberger threw for 3,082 yards, 22 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2013, has not been able to work out for scouts as he continues to recover from ACL surgery.
He is expected to throw at LSU’s pro day on April 9.
