‘The Alien’ isn’t going to just sit back at age 49 and rest on his latest victory. Bernard Hopkins is already looking ahead to his next fights and his list is a challenging one. Hopkins sees his next 3 opponents being Light Heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson, Floyd Mayweather Jr, and possibly Andre Ward.
Here’s Hopkins reasoning behind setting such lofty goals for this year:
“The only thing I want to know before I leave this game is that I gave it all,” Hopkins said.
“It’s another page. Every page is history. Money is great but history is something you can’t get rid of.”
When talking about his Mayweather fight Hopkins had this to say:
“If I do a fight, it would be one of the biggest in the world. We will do it in a stadium somewhere,” Hopkins said.
“After I become the undisputed light-heavyweight champion of the world, if there was one big fight out there, I know what I would call it — 50-50. He wants to pass Marciano. He wants to get to 50 and I am 50. That would be huge.
“I would love to do that. But let me get past Stevenson first.”
I don’t think Floyd and Hopkins will be able to find a middle ground in terms of weight; there’s just too large of a gap between the two to make that fight happen. The Adonis Stevenson fight would be very interesting though because of Stevenson’s power.
The Alien is honestly fighting just for legacy at this point and if he beats Stevenson at 50 years old then he’ll have to be mentioned amongst some of the best 40+ athletes ever.
