What does being named World Series MVP get you, other than respect, a fancy trophy, a monetary bonus, and a selfie with t he POTUS? Apparently if you’re David Ortiz it gets your name at the top of the list of offseason jersey sales at MLB.com. According to ESPN, Ortiz’s No. 34 jersey was the top seller from Oct. 31, 2013, to March 30, 2014 at the store of Major League Baseball’s official website, with teammate Dustin Pedroia coming in second and Yankees captain Derek Jeter rounding out the top three.
Here are the top 10:
David Ortiz Boston Red Sox
Dustin Pedroia Boston Red Sox
Derek Jeter New York Yankees
Yadier Molina St. Louis Cardinals
Clayton Kershaw Los Angeles Dodgers
Andrew McCutchen Pittsburgh Pirates
Buster Posey San Francisco Giants
David Wright New York Mets
Robinson Cano Yankees/Mariners
Manny Machado Baltimore Orioles
Can’t argue with the top three, but how on Earth did Manny Machado come in ahead of guys like Miguel Cabrera, Bryce Harper, or Mike Trout? That’s just a flat out travesty.
