Don Sterling

The irony in this is delicious, as Donald Sterling was to be given the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Los Angeles NAACP at their 100th anniversary gala next month. Seriously people, you can’t make this stuff up.

NAACP Awards

Not sure how Sterling was even up for this honor in the first place given his checkered past, but it’s safe to say that the NAACP will probably not be giving him the Lifetime Achievement Award on May 15. Too bad though, would have been cool to see Sterling and Al Sharpton mix things up a bit during The Manhattans performance.

He also received a 2009 NAACP LA Chapter Humanitarian award. I really wonder who runs that chapter.

  2. nba is fixed says:

Does this also mean that Paula Deen and Gwyneth Paltrow will receive NAACP Image Awards?

  3. GQTrojan says:

The NAACP had to have known about all the bigoted/racist things Sterling has done in the past. He obviously must have donated healty amounts of money to their organization which made it easier for them to look the other way. It just shows that the NAACP now cares more about power and wealth than they do black people. *smdh*

    Groucho Marx comes to mind:

“…wouldn’t want to be a member of any club that would have me as a member”

Having to backtrack from Sterling on the one hand and putting Al Sharpton on the spot for being on the same bill as Sterling.

Doesn’t this rate right up there with politicians who take money from questionable sources on the grounds that it in no way calls their ability to be objective, impartial and unbiased into question.

If this is a matter of what money can buy, good for the goose really isn’t good for the gander.
